The Art of Being Fully Alive

Chapter One

Remembering

“Man’s possibilities are very great. You cannot even conceive a shadow of what man is capable of attaining. But nothing can be attained in sleep. In the consciousness of a sleeping man his illusions, his ‘dreams’ are mixed with reality. He lives in a subjective world and he can never escape from it. And this is the reason why he can never make use of all the powers he possesses and why he lives in only a small part of himself.”

– Gurdjieff

You opened this book because you know something. This knowing is deep inside of you. You may not be able to explain what it is, but you can feel it. In the stillness of a quiet moment, when the busyness of life calms down, you can feel it stirring within you. It feels like something is missing. Have you ever asked yourself the following questions? What is life really about? Is there a purpose to life? What am I doing here? Is there more to life than just this? Do we just live and then die? Is death a final never ending darkness and emptiness devoid of everything including light? The answers to these questions live at the depths of your heart.

Biologically and intellectually we understand conception, gestation, birth, existence, and death. Beyond our biology and intellect there is a deeper part of us. More than ninety percent of the human family feels no connection to their deeper self. When they feel that stirring or hear their inner voice, they don’t pay much attention to it, they never give it any energy. People who are actually paying attention try to answer the fundamental questions of life with religion, philosophy, psychology, or science. These belief systems were created by the desire to answer those very questions. Initially they can be helpful in leading us deeper into ourselves. However, after a time, they stop helping and become limiting. Often they become contradictory, confusing, even hypocritical. I’ve gone all the way down these avenues. I know from experience that the answers cannot be found in these belief systems. They strengthen the intellect and the ego, the exact opposite of what one needs to find the answers. They are mind traps. A never- ending maze that just leads to more questions. I’ve spent my entire adult life on a quest pursuing the answers to the fundamental questions of life. I learned a great deal over the years in this pursuit. I eventually found the answers to life’s greatest questions. I found the key to love, happiness, peace, freedom, truth, wisdom, and our purpose in life. I’m writing this book to share with you what I’ve discovered on my great adventure through and beyond the matrix. I cannot wait any longer to share this information with you because we are at a critical point in human history. Time is of the essence. The survival of the human family is at stake.

This book is not for everyone. This is a deep dive into the essence of life. A journey that goes well beyond science, psychology, philosophy, and religion. Most of all it’s a deep exploration of you. It will show you how to free your heart and mind, and find the answers to the fundamental questions of life. This is a call to adventure for people who genuinely want to know how to be fully alive.

Adventures are fun. They can also be challenging, and sometimes they can be surprising enough to shake us up a bit. The intent of this book is to cut through all the illusions, dogmas, misleading information, and misguided attempts at bringing you to the truth. If you’re up for a good challenge and a great adventure, you’ve come to the right place. It is no accident, nor coincidence, that you are reading these words. You are different, you are paying attention to that deeper part of yourself and giving it some vital energy. You are still open and full of wonder. I wrote this book to reward you for your curiosity and perseverance. It is going to save you decades of time seeking answers, meaning, love, and happiness.

Life is much like an iceberg, the deeper you go beyond the surface the richer and more interesting it becomes. Now is the time and this is the place to explore a deeper, more fulfilling life. Here are a few rare insights about life that most people never come to know. Further into the book we will go into these insights in greater depth.

The First Insight is: Life is a game and you are here to joyfully play it. “Play” is a key ingredient in the art of being fully alive. There are many spiritual traditions that claim life is a school. They state that we are here to learn lessons. I disagree. We are pure energy. This pure energy comes from “original source” and has profound intelligence and full awareness. As such, we already have access to all knowledge.

Within the first year and a half of life all humans forget everything they know. It’s called “earth amnesia”. Playing the game of life will give us experiences that will help us remember who we truly are, what we know, and what we are here to do. Life is not a school because there is nothing to learn that we don’t already know. We remember best by playing, not by sitting in a classroom, not by struggling and working harder or being overly serious. “Angels fly because they take themselves lightly.” Light hearted play opens us up to joy. Joy is an expanded vibrational state. Joy is a shorter, simpler way of saying unreasonable happiness. It is being happy without needing to have a reason. Joy is an internal state of being that does not require an external reason or circumstance. Being a perfectionist or overly serious is a contracted vibrational state. Serious people are too attached to the drama of life, which causes them to contract rather than expand, they tighten up and narrow their perception. Being serious gets boring and stressful rather quickly. We are here to joyfully experience life in this three dimensional form.

The game of life is not a zero sum game. In order for you to win, someone else does not have to lose. There does not have to be any losers at all in this game. It’s not likely everyone will win since 90 percent of the people don’t even know they are playing. The point is, life is not a competition between people. In fact, cooperating with others is a real advantage. It’s a team sport that does not require you to form a team. We are all brothers and sisters in the human family. When we treat each other with this kind of love, the game becomes much easier. It’s best not to think of this game in terms of winning or losing at all. Here are a few different ways to look at it. How much joy did I experience while playing? How much did I remember? Did I live the life I dreamed of living?

Once you finish this book you will be ready to start playing the game with joy and deliberate intent.

The Second insight is: We are born with a Soul’s code that lives deep inside us, even deeper than those questions stirring inside you. Our Soul’s code has our life’s purpose in it. There is a universal and an individual aspect to this code. Healing our amnesia and freeing our authentic selves from the consensus reality is our universal purpose. Our individual purpose is to find and express the unique genius inside of us. “Ondinnonk” is a Huron term that means the sacred wish of the Eternal self or Soul. Joseph Campbell called it “following your bliss”. Following your heart’s desire is another way to express it. Remembering who we truly are and bringing our genius into full embodiment and expression is the art of being fully alive.

The Third insight is: We all have the same desires in life. We are all born with seven universal desires. Once our basic survival needs are satisfied, the pursuit of these universal desires will free our hearts and minds. Following these desires will help us remember who we are and lead us to the truth. This has a positive effect on all of us as a human family and the planet we live in. These desires are the essence of the art of being fully alive.

The Fourth insight is: all human beings have abilities beyond their wildest imagination. We have forgotten about these extraordinary abilities because we live in a cocoon of illusions which act as a prison for our hearts and minds. We are not fully alive because we have been domesticated into a system of slavery that controls our perception of reality.

The Fifth insight is: Everything we have been taught to believe about who we are, what is real, and what is the truth, is an illusion. It can be shocking when we realize just how vast the illusions are. There are so many illusions they actually form a matrix. Former medical professor and biologist Bruce Lipton once stated; “The Matrix film is not a science fictional movie, it’s a documentary.” The “matrix” is a metaphor for the consensus reality of a society and its’ culture. This matrix is a group of beliefs, values, opinions, attitudes, and habitual thinking regarding the nature of reality, which almost everyone in that society agrees upon. This consensus hallucination is like mass hypnosis, creating a state of amnesia that allows a matrix of illusions to take control of the perception of everyone who lives in that society. For us to be fully alive and live the life of our dreams, we must unplug emotionally, energetically, and mentally from the matrix. Detaching from the matrix takes tremendous discipline, focus, awareness, commitment, and courage. If we are unwilling or unable to unplug from the matrix, we will live the dream the matrix creates for us. From the point of view of a person with amnesia, it may seem like a pretty good dream at times. From my point of view, the matrix is a nightmare of slavery that we need to free ourselves from.

Remaining plugged into the matrix means remaining ignorant, naïve, completely unaware, and never really alive. When we do not unplug from the dream of the matrix, we think and act like slaves to the institutions of society. We believe we have choices, but we have been conditioned to make the choices the matrix desires for us. We think we have free will, but our will is socially engineered by the matrix. The vast majority of indoctrinated people remain deeply under the influence of the consensus hallucination. This industrial, technocratic, machine society has led to the destruction of the very habitat that allows for human life to exist on earth. If this destruction continues, the human family is facing extinction. We, as human beings, are facing a life or death decision. We either unplug from the matrix or, go extinct. No species would deliberately choose extinction. The matrix wants us to stay plugged into a state of amnesia and suspended awareness so it can continue to mine our vital life source energy and control every aspect of our entire lives. Right now, it is absolutely essential for the human family to heal our amnesia, unplug from the matrix, and live as free and genuine human beings!

Two thousand four hundred years ago, Plato wrote The Republic. In that book was a section titled “Allegory of the Cave.” The Matrix film is a futuristic retelling of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. Plato felt human beings were resistant to change. He knew that the average person had too much fear of the unknown to do what was necessary to free themselves from the chains and shackles that enslaved them. Plato was right. Two thousand four hundred years later the human family is still enslaved by illusions. This is a crucial moment for the human species. Time is running out. There is an urgency to make the decision to unplug from the matrix and become fully alive before it’s too late. If enough of us start to remember who we really are, it will create a critical mass and the whole human family will heal from our collective amnesia and begin to thrive. The choice to remember who we really are and become fully alive is one we are presented with in every moment of our lives.

When I was 13 years old I had an insight. I realized that I didn’t want to live a life like all the adults I knew. Every day was the same routine. Drinking a cup of coffee first thing after getting up in the morning, getting in the car and commuting to work, working all day for someone else, commuting home, eating dinner, watching TV and then going to bed. This was repeated again and again each and every weekday. On weekends, people either worked around the house doing repairs, maintenance, and chores, or they got in their car and drove somewhere for a short vacation. Amidst all of this eating, sleeping, driving, and working, they managed to get married, have kids, buy a house, get a promotion or a better job, put their kids through college, get divorced, remarry… or not, get sick, take a bunch of pharmaceutical drugs, which alleviated their symptoms but the side effects created a new illness that required surgery. They eventually died broke because their medical bills devoured their life savings.

Most people never think twice about their lives. They never pay attention to the genius stirring inside. They never remember who they truly are. They are never fully alive. Maybe they feel good about their lives, maybe they don’t. What is the point of it all? It never made a lick of sense to me! In fact, even at the age of 13, it seemed insane. I would rather die than live like that. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life but I knew with an excruciating passion that I didn’t want my life to be like that.

That stirring you feel inside you may be a soft whisper or it may be a loud roar depending on where you are in your life’s journey. Your genius is communicating with you. It’s telling you to break free, to escape from the matrix and remember your authentic self. You are being called to “anamnesis”, a term that means remembering the true intelligence and knowledge that belonged to you before you were born into this life. This is the intelligence and knowledge of the Eternal self. Anamnesis is the complete healing of earth amnesia.

A life of freedom and authentic power, with abilities beyond your current awareness is waiting for you.

The principles, concepts, and truths conveyed in this book are all based on personal experience from 50 plus years of in-depth investigation into life, love, ancient wisdom and infinite awareness. Begin your journey to freedom by taking responsibility for your life. Don’t blindly believe anything I have to say. Take it into your heart and do what you need to verify if it resonates as the truth or not. After all, you and you alone are the author of your life.

Morpheus offered Neo a choice. Take the blue pill and stay trapped in the matrix or take the red pill and become fully alive in the real world. Reading this book is the equivalent of taking the red pill. You will begin to understand life on a completely different level. Are you up for a great challenge? Are you ready to play the game? Do you accept the call to adventure? This decision will change your life forever. It’s your choice!
